Missile system that shot down Pakistani jets during Operation Sindoor to feature in tri-services tableau

India’s advanced S-400 air defence missile system will be displayed for the first time at the Republic Day 2026 parade on January 26, as part of the Department of Military Affairs tableau, senior defence officials confirmed on Friday.

Air Commodore Manish Sabharwal said the S-400 system, credited with protecting Indian airspace during last year’s military conflict with Pakistan, will be a key highlight of the “Tri-Services Tableau – Operation Sindoor”.

The system was effectively deployed during Operation Sindoor, a joint military operation launched to target terror infrastructure following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

S-400 shot down Pakistani fighter jets: IAF chief

In August last year, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh had confirmed that India’s S-400 air defence system successfully shot down five Pakistani fighter jets during the operation, marking a significant demonstration of India’s air defence capabilities.

The revelation had underscored the strategic importance of the Russian-origin missile system in safeguarding Indian airspace during high-intensity military engagements.

Tri-services tableau highlights joint military strength

This year’s Department of Military Affairs tableau will focus on inter-service coordination and joint operational success, showcasing the combined strength of the Army, Navy and Air Force.

Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar will lead the Republic Day parade for the fourth consecutive year, Major General Navraj Dhillon said. Around 6,050 military personnel will take part in the parade.

Advanced military platforms such as Bhairav, Shaktibaan, Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) and the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) will also be on display.
