Speaker suspends Suvendu Adhikari and 4 BJP MLAs over Ruckus in Assembly

On Monday, Five Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs, including Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari, were suspended from the West Bengal Assembly after they allegedly came to blows with Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislators in House amid row over the Birbhum violence.

The 5 BJP MLAs including Suvendu Adhikari are suspended until further notice, following a clash between TMC & BJP MLAs on the floor of the House. Around 25 BJP MLAs led by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari walked out of the Assembly, claiming that several party legislators were roughed up by TMC MLAs inside the House.

The West Bengal Assembly saw a ruckus over the Birbhum killings on Monday as ruling TMC and BJP MLAs exchanged blows.

BJP legislators demanded a statement by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the “worsening” law and order situation in the state.

The BJP has alleged that eight of its MLAs got injured. However, the TMC MLA alleged that BJP MLAs got into a physical assault. Three Trinamool MLAs have gone to the hospital.

Amit Malviya, in-charge of BJP’s National Information & Technology Dept and Co-incharge of BJP West Bengal took to Twitter to question Mamata Banerjee. He also posted a video of TMC MLAs attacking the BJP MLAs.

Malviya tweeted, “Absolute pandemonium in the West Bengal Assembly. After Bengal Governor, TMC MLAs now assault BJP MLAs, including Chief Whip Manoj Tigga, as they were demanding a discussion on the Rampurhat massacre on the floor of the house. What is Mamata Banerjee trying to hide?”

Meanwhile, Adhikari said, “MLAs are not safe even inside the Assembly… At least 8-10 of our legislators were beaten up, including Chief Whip Manoj Tigga, by some TMC MLAs, as we demanded that the CM make a statement in the House on the law and order issue.”

Earlier, the Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari held a peaceful march along with several Karyakartas demanding a central intervention. Adhikari tweeted, “West Bengal has become a “Slaughterhouse”. Immediate Central Intervention Needed. Walked alongside BJP Bengal karyakartas at Nandigram to protest the 27 killings that happened in the last 8 days including the Birbhum massacre. Won’t stop till Rule of Law is restored in WB.”
