Shinde camp leader files police complaint against Rahul Gandhi for defaming freedom fighter Savarkar
As Congress leader Rahul Gandhi continues to insult patriot and freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena’s Vandana Suhas Dongre filed a police complaint in Thane Nagar police station against Rahul Gandhi over his derogatory remarks on Savarkar.
Dongre stated that Rahul Gandhi has “defamed the freedom fighter and hurt the sentiments of locals.” The police registered a non-cognizable offence u/s 500 and 501 IPC.
Vandana Dongre, Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena’s Mahila Aghadi head, said that she will not tolerate the “defamation of our great men ”. Dongre said, “Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra made a statement defaming the freedom fighter Savarkar and due to this the sentiments of the local citizens have been hurt.”
Rahul Gandhi targeted Savarkar on Thursday, alleging that the latter betrayed leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel by signing a letter of apology to the British before independence.
Addressing the media in Maharashtra’s Akola, Rahul Gandhi said, “Veer Savarkar, in a letter written to the British, said, ‘Sir, I beg to remain your most obedient servant’ and signed on it. Savarkar helped the British. He betrayed leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Patel by signing the letter out of fear.”
Earlier, Ranjit Savarkar, the grandson of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, registered a complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly “insulting” the Hindutva ideologue. However, no FIR has been registered yet. In a complaint lodged at Shivaji Park police station in Mumbai, Savarkar also demanded that Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole should be booked for “making similar statements”.
