Petrol, diesel get costlier by Rs.3 in Karnataka as the state government hikes sales tax
Soon after the general elections 2024 concluded, the Congress-led Karnataka government announced an increase in the cess on petrol and diesel, leading to costlier fuel prices.
Karnataka became the first state to increase petrol and diesel prices after the general elections. The new rates, effective immediately from June 15, will impact consumers across the state.
A state government notification issued today said the Karnataka Sales Tax (KST) has been raised from 25.92 percent to 29.84 percent on petrol and from 14.3 percent to 18.4 percent on diesel.
According to the Petroleum Dealers Association, petrol and diesel prices are likely to go up by Rs.3 and Rs.3.05 approximately in Karnataka.
Post the hike, petrol now costs Rs.102.86 per litre in Bengaluru, while diesel is priced at Rs.88.94 per litre.
Earlier, the BJP state govt in November 2021, reduced petrol prices by Rs.13.30 per litre and diesel prices by Rs.19.40 per litre to help revive the economy after the COVID-19 pandemic.
