Starlink’s first wave of hiring begins in India

In a major step toward its much-awaited satellite broadband debut in India, SpaceX-owned Starlink has initiated its first round of hiring in the country. The company has posted job openings for several finance and accounting positions across LinkedIn and the SpaceX careers portal.

The available positions include tax manager, accounting manager, payments manager, and senior treasury analyst—all based in Bengaluru, which will serve as Starlink’s operational centre in India.

In its listing, the company said it seeks professionals to “oversee financial reporting and compliance” as Starlink expands its global satellite broadband network.

Starlink has specified that it is only considering local applicants with valid work authorisation in India. “There are no remote or hybrid options available,” the company stated, underlining its focus on building an in-country operational base to support its expanding network.

Commercial launch expected by late 2025 or early 2026

The hiring comes as Starlink prepares for its commercial launch of satellite internet services in India, expected in late 2025 or early 2026. The company is currently setting up ground infrastructure and conducting mandatory security and interception trials in compliance with Indian regulations.

Gateway stations planned in major Indian cities

As part of regulatory compliance, Starlink has already demonstrated its broadband capabilities to Department of Telecommunications (DoT) officials in Mumbai. Reports suggest that the company has applied for gateway permissions in Mumbai, Chennai, and Noida, with plans to establish additional gateways in Chandigarh, Kolkata, and Lucknow.

Once operational, Starlink will compete with Reliance Jio Satellite and Eutelsat OneWeb, both of which have received regulatory clearance but await final spectrum allocation. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) are still finalising the pricing and allocation framework for satellite broadband spectrum.
