Tension prevails after stone-pelting on Ram Navami procession in 6 states

Tension prevailed in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga district after incidents of stone-pelting and arson during Ram Navami fair on Sunday in Hirahi-Hendlaso village. As per the information, some people started pelting stones at the crowd during Ram Navami procession in the area. This led to a stampede and more than half a dozen people were injured.

As tension escalated, more than a dozen motorcycles and a pickup van were set on fire at the fair. Two houses have also been set ablaze near Bhogta Garden.

Several senior officers including DC and SP of Lohardaga reached the spot. Heavy police force has been deployed in the entire area. Top officials of the district administration say that the situation has been brought under control.

Half a dozen people are reported to have been injured in stone-pelting incidents. Two of these people, Manohar Sahu and Bhola Singh, have been admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

In another incidence, curfew was clamped in the entire Khargone city of Madhya Pradesh after stones hurled at a Ram Navami procession here triggered arson and torching of some vehicles and houses, a senior official said on Monday. Police had to fire tear gas shells to control the situation. Following the incident, curfew was clamped in the entire Khargone city on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, Khargone Collector Anugrah P said.

In Gujarat, two companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) held a flag march in Chhapariya area a day after violence was reported in Himmatnagar and Khambhat cities. Communal clashes broke out between two communities during Ram Navami processions, prompting the police to fire tear gas shells to control mobs who pelted stones at the procession and damaged shops and vehicles at both places.

In Karnataka’s Kolar district, on Friday when Sri Rama Shobha Yatra, an annual procession organized on the eve of Ram Navmi, was passing through Mulbagal’s Jahangir Mohalla,  some miscreants started pelting stones at the procession. Police detained nine people in connection with the case.

In Bankura, West Bengal, there was a ruckus during the Ram Navami procession on Sunday. There was a lot of ruckus on the procession coming out from the front of the mosque located near Machantala petrol pump turn.

Earlier, On April 2, when Hindus across the world were celebrating their new year, communal violence broke in Rajasthan’s Karauli when a motorcycle rally marking Nav Samvatsar passed through a Muslim-dominated neighborhood. Incidentally, 42 people including cops were injured in the communal riots that broke out when stones were thrown at the rally conducted by Hindus by locals in the area.
