Swati Maliwal’s ‘after-assault’ video surfaces
Four days after the assault on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) RS MP Swati Maliwal at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence, a video has gone viral on social media, in which she is seen sitting on the couch and the security officials asking her to leave the building.
Swati Maliwal has accused Arvind Kejriwal’s aide, Bibhav Kumar of assaulting her inside the Delhi Chief Minister’s residence.
In the video – which begins in the middle of the argument, Maliwal can be seen seated on a couch and the security officials ask her to get up (and leave the premises). To this Maliwal responds, angrily, “… I will not. I will do it. I will do it. Today, I will tell these people everything.”
One of the guards responds, “Yes, you can… that is your headache…” and is then interrupted by Ms. Maliwal, who says, “You will let me talk to the DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police) … right now.”
The guard says, “Yes… we will inform the DCP right away. Till then, you please come with us.”
Maliwal then says she will complain to cops at the Civil Lines Police Station, which has jurisdiction over the area in which Kejriwal lives.
In the video, Maliwal declares she has made an emergency call to the police (on the 112 helpline for women in distress) and responds, “Let the police come…” and argues again with the guard.
In a post on X, Maliwal referred to Kejriwal as a “political hitman” and claimed that the “hitman” had directed “his people” to share the video in question to build a narrative to defend the party and “save himself (after) committing this crime”.
“Like every time… this political hitman has started efforts to save himself. By getting his people to tweet and play videos without any context, he thinks he can save himself (after) committing this crime.”
“Who makes a video of someone being beaten up? The truth will be revealed when CCTV footage of the house and room is checked. Fall to whatever level you want… God is watching. One day, the truth will be revealed,” Maliwal added.
On Monday Delhi Police – which has filed a case against Bibhav Kumar based on a statement provided by Maliwal – said it had received two calls from within Kejriwal’s residence. The cops said the phone number was registered to Maliwal but the caller did not identify themselves.
Earlier, Maliwal recorded her statement before the Tis Hazari court in Delhi in connection with the alleged assault on her at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence.
Metropolitan magistrate Katyayini Sharma Kandwal recorded Maliwal’s statement in her chambers. Under section 164 CrPC, a judicial magistrate is empowered to record any statement or confession made before him during the course of an investigation.
After recording the statement of Maliwal, Delhi Police late on Thursday lodged an FIR under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of the IPC.
Subsequently, she underwent a medical examination at AIIMS.
