Tamilisai Soundararajan may contest general elections from Tamil Nadu as BJP candidate
Telangana Governor and Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday resigned from both posts. It has been learnt that Soundararajan is likely to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu on the BJP ticket.
“The Hon’ble Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Tamilisai Soundararajan has tendered her resignation with immediate effect. The resignation has been submitted to the Hon’ble President of India,” reads a communique from Raj Bhavan.
According to the report, Soundararajan contested the Lok Sabha election in 2019 from Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi seat, which the ruling DMK’s Kanimozhi currently holds. There is speculation she might be fielded from one of three seats in Tamil Nadu, including the Thoothukudi seat.
The Telangana Governor’s resignation comes on the same day as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public address in the state at Jagital.
Tamilisai, the former president of BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit, had taken over as the first woman Governor of Telangana in 2019.
