Authorities in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, have discovered three broken idols near the recently uncovered Shiv-Hanuman Temple, which was reopened on December 14 for the first time since 1978. The idols, including one of Lord Ganesh and another thought to be of Lord Kartikeya, were found during the digging of a well, according to police.
Sambhal Additional Superintendent of Police, Shrish Chandra, confirmed that the idols were recovered along with debris and soil from the well. The area has since been secured to ensure smooth excavation.

In the wake of the temple’s reopening, devotees painted “Om Namah Shivaya” and “Har Har Mahadeva” slogans on the temple’s walls. The temple premises were cleaned, and electricity connections were restored, along with the installation of CCTV cameras for security.
Sambhal’s Superintendent of Police, Krishan Kumar, and District Magistrate, Rajender Pensiya, visited the site on Sunday to offer prayers. This follows ongoing efforts by the district administration to clear unauthorized constructions in the area through an anti-encroachment drive.
Sambhal has been tense since the November 24 violence that erupted during a court-ordered survey of a mosque, resulting in four deaths and several injuries. The district is also carrying out a campaign against electricity theft.
