TTP claims deadly strike on Pakistani military post
The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for a deadly assault on a Pakistani Army post in South Waziristan, alleging that 25 soldiers were killed and eight others injured in the overnight attack.
In an official statement issued on Tuesday, the banned militant outfit said that its fighters launched a “large-scale attack” late Monday night, during which they destroyed a Pakistani Army drone and seized control of the outpost.
While the TTP frequently targets Pakistani security forces in the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan, the claimed death toll in this incident marks one of the deadliest attacks in recent months.
There has been no immediate confirmation or response from Pakistan’s military. In previous instances, authorities have often disputed the casualty figures released by the TTP.
The assault comes amid a surge in militant activity along Pakistan’s western frontier. Security officials have blamed fighters based in Afghanistan for orchestrating and supporting cross-border strikes — a charge that Kabul has repeatedly denied.
The latest attack underscores the escalating instability in the restive border regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where militant networks continue to exploit porous boundaries and weak local governance, posing a growing challenge to Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts.
