Explosion hits home at night as violence concerns resurface in troubled region
A devastating bomb attack in Bishnupur district of Manipur early Tuesday claimed the lives of two young children and left their mother injured, officials said.
The incident took place around 1 am in Moirang Tronglaobi village, where a suspected explosive reportedly hit a civilian house while the family was asleep.
Children killed while sleeping
According to reports, the blast struck the bedroom, killing a five-year-old boy and a six-month-old baby girl on the spot. Their mother, who was in the same room, was injured and is currently receiving treatment.
The attack has shocked locals, especially as it targeted a residential home in the middle of the night.
Area has history of violence
Moirang Tronglaobi lies close to the hill areas of Churachandpur and has seen repeated incidents of firing during the peak of ethnic unrest in recent years.
The latest incident has once again raised concerns about safety and the continuing violence in parts of the state.
Local BJP MLA Th Shanti Singh strongly condemned the incident, calling it a “brutal” and “inhuman” act.
“This heinous act is nothing less than terrorism. Such violence has no place in our society,” he said, expressing grief over the loss of the two children and extending condolences to the family.
Manipur has been witnessing ethnic tensions between Meitei and Kuki communities since 2023, leading to clashes, deaths, and displacement. Despite security measures, sporadic incidents continue to be reported from sensitive areas.
