J&K LG Manoj Sinha avers ‘Govt firm in its resolve to combat, defeat terrorism’

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has extended his deepest condolences to the families of army personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the ongoing operation against the terrorists at Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir, an official statement said.

Earlier, on Friday, five soldiers were martyred and another was injured in a gunfight with militants in the thick jungles of the Rajouri-Poonch sector of the Jammu division.

The incident occurred during a combing operation by the security forces against the April 20 attackers, who killed five soldiers in an ambush. The gunfight with the hiding militants broke out in the Kandi forest of the Rajouri sector in the Pir Panjal Valley on Friday around 7.30 a.m.

The statement further read, “I convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of the brave Army personnel martyred in a joint operation against terrorists. We are firmly resolved to combat and defeat the terrorist menace, which is sponsored from across the border.”

“The Lt Governor is monitoring the developments and he is in touch with the top officials of the Army and Jammu Kashmir Police.”

Meanwhile, a terrorist has been killed in an ongoing encounter with the security forces at Karhama Kunzer in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district and Kandi area in the Rajouri district of J&K.

The firefight started after a joint team of police and security forces got input about the presence of terrorists in the area.

“In the ongoing operation in the Kandi Forest in Rajouri sector, contact has been established with terrorists at 0115h on 06 May 2023, and firing started,” the Army said.

There have been a series of encounters across Kashmir in the recent past in which several terrorists have been eliminated.

Army columns have been conducting relentless intelligence-based operations to flush out a group of terrorists involved in an ambush on an army truck in the Tota Gali area of Bhata Dhurian in the Jammu region.
