RSS backs court process in Bhojshala dispute, awaits HC verdict
A senior RSS leader on Tuesday said that all facts related to the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque controversy have been presented before the Madhya Pradesh High Court, and the court’s decision will be accepted. “We have no separate viewpoint in this matter,” said Prakash Shastri, chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Malwa province, speaking to reporters in Indore.
As the matter was before the high court, it would be inappropriate to comment on it, he said, adding, “All facts have been presented before the court. Whatever the court’s decision may be, we will accept it.” The Sangh leader was responding to the question whether the historical dispute was moving towards resolution in the light of the Archaeological Survey of India’s (ASI) survey report.
The ASI’s more than 2,000-page report indicated that a massive structure dating back to the reign of the Parmar kings existed within the Bhojshala complex in Dhar district. Repurposed parts of the ancient structures were used in the later construction of the colonnades of the mosque, it said. The Hindus consider Bhojshala a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, while the Muslim community claims that the structure, believed to date back to the 11th century, is a mosque.
Asked about the allegations of ‘love jihad‘ in connection with actress Monalisa Bhosle’s marriage to Farman Khan, Shastri said, without referring to the interfaith marriage, that incidents of ‘love jihad’ take place due to a “lack of sanskars” (inculcation of values) and they are a matter of concern for the entire country. If families educate children about their religion and instill proper values, such incidents will decrease, he added. Monalisa entered the world of acting after gaining fame on social media with her photographs during the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela last year. Her father and some others have described her recent marriage in Kerala as a case of ‘love jihad’, but the newlyweds have denied the allegation, saying there was no conversion.
The term ‘love jihad’ is used by right-wing Hindu organisations to claim that Muslim men lure women of other religions into marriage in order to convert them to Islam. Shastri, meanwhile, also announced that the RSS’s Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal (all-India executive committee) meeting will be held in Indore in October or November, with some 450 delegates, including Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, expected to participate. “This meeting is being held in Indore for the first time,” he said.
