Chandigarh Dibrugarh Express tragedy: Loco pilot says he heard explosion sound express derailed near UP’s Gonda

On Thursday, in Uttar Pradesh‘s Gonda district, four passengers lost their lives and two others were injured when 12 coaches of the 15904 Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed. The incident occurred near Jhilahi Railway Station near Gonda when the train was en route to Dibrugarh in Assam from Chandigarh.

Meanwhile, the loco pilot confirmed that a loud noise was heard before the incident.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynatah took stock of the situation and directed the officials to reach the accident spot. He has also instructed officials to immediately take the injured to the hospital and ensure proper treatment.

The district administration has rushed a 40-member medical team and 15 ambulances for relief and rescue operations.

The derailment of the express train affected the traffic on the route leading to the diversion of various trains, a Railways official said.

The development comes after several train derailment cases have been reported across several parts of the country.

Last month on July 16, the engine and a coach of the Kamrup Express got detached in Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
