Seat-sharing talks conclude as JD(U) finalizes first set of nominees ahead of Bihar polls

The Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] on Wednesday released its first list of 57 candidates for the upcoming Bihar assembly election, following extensive discussions within the party and its NDA allies over seat-sharing arrangements.

Among the key candidates, Anant Singh has been fielded from the Mokama constituency — a seat that has remained in political focus due to recent controversies and shifting loyalties.

The JD(U) has also named candidates for four constituencies previously claimed by Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), signaling a tactical effort to strengthen its presence within the NDA alliance.

Party sources said the list reflects JD(U)’s effort to balance regional representation and coalition dynamics ahead of the two-phase election.

Prominent names on the list include JD(U) state president Umesh Khushwaha from Mahanar, Shravan Kumar, Bihar’s Minister for Rural Development, from Nalanda, and Sunil Kumar from Bhore (SC).

The announcement comes a day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first list of 71 candidates, featuring several senior leaders and both Deputy Chief Ministers — Samrat Chaudhary (Tarapur) and Vijay Kumar Sinha (Lakhisarai). Other key BJP candidates include Tarkishore Prasad (Katihar), Mangal Pandey (Siwan), Ramkripal Yadav (Danapur), and Shreyasi Singh (Jamui).

Meanwhile, Jan Suraaj, led by Prashant Kishor, announced its second list of 65 candidates on Monday, positioning itself as one of the first parties to complete a large portion of ticket distribution for the Bihar polls.

With major political players unveiling their candidate lists, the stage is set for a closely contested election as parties vie for dominance in the 243-member Bihar Assembly.
