20 Arrested After Police Bust Liquor Party at Farmhouse Near Ahmedabad

In a major crackdown on illegal liquor consumption, police raided a farmhouse on the outskirts of Ahmedabad and arrested 20 people, including 13 African nationals, during a late-night party in the Shilaj area, officials said on Saturday.

According to Superintendent of Police (Ahmedabad Rural) Om Prakash Jat, the raid took place on Friday night after police received a tip-off about a liquor party being held under the guise of a student get-together. Gujarat has a strict prohibition law banning the sale and consumption of alcohol.

Of nearly 70 attendees at the farmhouse, 15 people—including 13 African students—were found to be intoxicated and taken into custody. Five more individuals, including two local bootleggers and the farmhouse owner, were arrested early Saturday, bringing the total number of arrests to 20.

“The get-together was organised by a Kenyan student for African students studying in various universities across Gujarat, including Gujarat University,” said SP Jat. “Our teams entered the venue disguised as guests after purchasing passes, and we caught the accused red-handed.”

During the raid, police seized 51 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 15 hookahs, both of which are banned in the state. Most of the foreign students were from Kenya, while others hailed from Comoros, Madagascar, and Mozambique.

Police identified the arrested bootleggers as Anant Kapil and Ashish Jadeja, and the farmhouse owner as Milan Patel. The party passes were reportedly sold at prices ranging from ₹700 to ₹25,000.

“No narcotics were found at the venue,” the SP clarified, adding that all 20 accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Gujarat Prohibition Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for criminal conspiracy.
