CCTV footage released to trace attacker
The West Midlands Police in the United Kingdom have launched an urgent manhunt for a white male suspect following the alleged “racially aggravated” rape of a woman believed to be of Indian heritage in the Park Hall area of Walsall, northern England.
Police were alerted on Saturday evening after reports of a woman in her 20s found distressed on the street. Detectives are treating the assault as a hate-motivated sexual attack and have released CCTV footage of the suspect to appeal for public assistance.
“This was an absolutely appalling attack on a young woman, and we are doing everything possible to arrest the person responsible,” said Detective Superintendent Ronan Tyrer of the West Midlands Police. “We have teams gathering evidence and building a profile of the attacker. We urge anyone who saw suspicious activity or has dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward — even a small detail could be crucial.”
The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s, with short hair and dressed in dark clothing.
While police have not yet confirmed the victim’s background, community sources identified her as a Punjabi woman. The attack has sparked concern in local circles, coming just weeks after a similar racially aggravated rape of a British Sikh woman in nearby Oldbury.
“At this stage, we are not linking this incident to any other offences,” DS Tyrer clarified.
Chief Superintendent Phil Dolby of Walsall Police assured that specialist officers and forensic teams are working around the clock to identify and arrest the perpetrator. “Walsall is a diverse area, and we understand the fear and concern this attack has caused. There will be an increased police presence in the coming days,” he said.
Sikh Federation UK condemned the incident, noting it as the second racially aggravated rape in the region within two months. “The attacker reportedly broke into the home of the woman. Police must urgently act to ensure the safety of women in the area,” the organisation said.
Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.
