“Centre for Narendra Modi Studies” exposed as unauthorized, CBI launches probe

The CBI has booked an Aligarh-based man for setting up a ‘Centre for Narendra Modi Studies‘ without obtaining permission from the Central government or the Prime Minister’s Office, officials said Monday. The CBI acted on a complaint lodged by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), which tagged a complaint by an Aligarh-based advocate alleging that Jasim Mohammad was running the Centre without taking prior permission, in violation of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950, they said.

The agency launched a preliminary inquiry in April this year after receiving the complaint from the assistant director, PMO. “The preliminary inquiry revealed that the Centre for Narendra Modi Studies was registered on January 25, 2021, under the Indian Trust Act, 1860, by Jasim Mohammad without prior permission from the Central government or the PMO,” said the CBI FIR registered in New Delhi on October 24. The Central agency sought permission from the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Rouse Avenue District Court, to investigate the case, which was granted on October 14, following which the FIR was registered against Jasim Mohammad.

Jasim Mohammed, who claims to be a Professor with several academic qualifications, became a regular face in New Delhi’s power circles, claiming proximity with top BJP leaders and RSS leaders. His claim was Sangh Parivar engaged him as a go-between with Muslim organizations. Many Central Ministers and BJP leaders were seen at the functions organized by him in Delhi and Lucknow. His website published even his several photos with Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Jasim Mohammad was caught in the radar of investigative agencies when he tried to save notorious Ponzi queen Nowhera Shaik, facing a series of ED and Income Tax cases. Jasim was lobbying for Nowhera Shaik in Delhi, claiming his proximity to power centers.[1]

CBI officials said that Jasim was an associate of another conman, Sanjay Rai Sherpuria, arrested by CBI in 2023. Sherpuria was also conning people claiming contacts in the Prime Minister’s office. Jasim also claimed a journalist associated with the tainted Sahara Group. There were allegations of taking huge money for lobbying for business projects, promising contracts, and even promising transfers and postings by these conmen, claiming proximity with the Prime Minister’s Office and the ruling party BJP.
