Nehru–Gandhi clan under scrutiny after Bihar debacle

It is timefor theNehru-Gandhi clanto subject itself to introspection and make a decision on the utility of the‘Vote Chori’campaign undertaken by the middle-aged scion of the family against Gyanesh Kumar, Chief Election Commissioner, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As the BJP-led NDA broke all records and set a new benchmark in winning the election, a Congress spokesman, resembling a constipated cockroach, was seen on TV channels describing the unprecedented victory of the alliance in Bihar as a result of the fight between Gyanesh Kumar and the people of Bihar. Gyanesh Kumar, an IAS officer belonging to Kerala cadre, is held in high esteem not only by the people of the State but by Congress and CPI(M) alike.

Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister who led the alliance of nations against Germany’s Hitler and his partners in the Second World War, said after defeating the opponents what he learnt from the devastating war: In War-Resolution, In Defeat-Defiance, In Victory-Magnanimity, In Peace-Goodwill. These are the opening words in the six-volume magnum opus he authored: The Gathering Storm, Their Finest Hour, The Grand Alliance, The Hinge of Fate, Closing the Ring & Triumph and Tragedy. Whatever be the approach of Britain towards India, Churchill, the greatest statesman, never wanted the world to witness another world war.

The results of the election held for the Bihar Legislative Assembly saw the BJP-led NDA making an impressive win, trouncing the rival I.N.D.I. Alliance. The electorate has burdened the NDA with more responsibilities, and their expectation run high. It is for Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Nitish Kumar to ensure that they deliver the goods on time and without any delay.

Instead of accepting the defeat with dignity and defiance, the Grand Old Party (GOP) has insulted the CEC and the BJP by terming it as a result of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Congress and its alliance partner RJD, led by the political buffoon Lallu Prasad Yadav, stand exposed before the electorate as the Supreme Court had ruled that the SIR is the prerogative of the Election Commission. Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi had told the eternal petitioners that according to the Representation of People’s Act 1950, section 21(2)(a) and Section 21 (2) (a) (i) (ii) the Election Commission is bound to revise and update the electoral rolls before each election and even the bye-election to Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies.

The Congress leaders are not in the habit of reading newspapers or watching TV channels. Had they been in the habit of updating the events happening in and around the country on a daily basis, they would not have ventured out for this misadventure, which misfired all the way from the beginning of the agitation.

Football is the most popular game in the world, and one of the factors that holds back the growth of the game in the country is Congress. Anywhere in the world, if a nation fares poorly in the World Cup or any other international tournaments, the first head to roll would be that of the coach/ manager, followed by the captain of the team. If the country/club fails to win again, the association/ federation controlling the game in the country would be the one to follow suit. There are enough examples across the world to substantiate this rule. Managers are ousted if they fail to yield the desired result, and there is no second chance for them.

In India, a bunch of Congress leaders who controlled the federation for decades have made football a family business. For these families, football is an avenue through which they can strengthen their business interests without any fanfare. FIFA, the body that controls global football, has placed India in the 136th position in the table of 211 nations.

Going by the rules followed by FIFA, it is time for the Nehru-Gandhi clan to stay away from the Congress and entrust the responsibility of running the organization to persons with a little bit of sense. The clan may be unaware of the fact that most of the family retainers were all set to join the BJP after the 2004 general election. Since the BJP’s alliance partners drew a blank in the polls, the party lost power at the Centre, and the fence sitters remained with the GOP. Some of the then fence sitters have occupied the chairs of the clan’s advisors and think tank.

In the Mahabharata, the Pandavas had to face only one Shakuni Mama. But there are nearly 100 Sakunis in Congress who could be easily identified. If the clan is incapable of discerning these cantankerous characters, well, it is time to give a clean burial to the party. The 55-year-old man is incapable of winning any future election. People crowd to listen to his speeches for their entertainment value. Who does not like to enjoy a cup of coffee and listen to jokes after a hard day’s job?
