    Advisory for tourists

The department has advised tourists and tour operators to strictly follow weather advisories, especially during winter months when snowfall is frequent in high-altitude areas.

It also stressed that vehicles travelling to high-altitude destinations must be properly equipped, including mandatory snow chains during snowfall conditions, to avoid similar situations in the future.

Tsomgo Lake, a popular high-altitude tourist destination located about 40 km from Gangtok, is known for heavy snowfall during winter, which often leads to temporary road disruptions.
