Centre backs diplomacy, highlights impact on global trade and energy
India on Wednesday welcomed the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that the temporary truce will lead to lasting peace in West Asia.
In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said India has consistently called for de-escalation, stressing that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only way to end the conflict.
Focus on global trade and humanitarian concerns
The government flagged the wider impact of the conflict, noting that it has caused “immense suffering” and disrupted global energy supplies and trade routes.
India reiterated that peaceful resolution through diplomatic channels is crucial to restoring stability in the region.

Hormuz navigation a key concern
Highlighting the importance of maritime routes, the MEA called for “unimpeded freedom of navigation” through the Strait of Hormuz.
The narrow passage is a key route for global oil shipments, and recent disruptions have triggered volatility in international energy markets.
Ceasefire offers temporary relief
The statement comes after a two-week ceasefire was announced by Donald Trump, who said the US would pause strikes on Iran.
The truce is seen as a temporary step toward broader negotiations, with both sides exploring proposals to reduce tensions.
