Gurbindar Singh sustained bullet injuries after unidentified assailants opened fire on him outside his relative’s residence in Gurdaspur district
An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) youth leader and village sarpanch was critically injured after being shot at by unidentified assailants in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district on Tuesday evening.
The victim, Gurbindar Singh, serves as the AAP youth president of the Fatehgarh Churian Assembly segment and is also the sarpanch of his village.
According to reports, the incident took place in Qadian Rajputa village when Gurbindar Singh had stepped out of his uncle’s residence and was about to enter his vehicle. At that moment, two unidentified men riding a motorcycle allegedly opened fire at him before fleeing the scene.
Eyewitnesses, including his uncle Mukhbain Singh, said the attackers fired three rounds. Two bullets reportedly struck Gurbindar Singh in his legs, leaving him seriously injured.
Family members and local residents immediately rushed him to the Civil Hospital in Batala. Following preliminary treatment, doctors referred him to a hospital in Amritsar for specialised medical care due to the severity of his injuries.
Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation has been initiated. Authorities are examining multiple angles to determine the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible.
Fatehgarh Churian Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Lalit Kumar said efforts are underway to trace the assailants and gather evidence related to the incident.
Meanwhile, reports circulating on social media have claimed that a gangster group has taken responsibility for the attack. However, police have not confirmed the authenticity of those claims and said they are currently verifying the information.
The shooting has raised concerns among local residents and political workers, with authorities assuring that all aspects of the case will be thoroughly investigated.
