Yogi Calls For Vigilance Against Demographic Change And Social Division
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called for greater public vigilance against what he described as attempts to alter the country’s religious demography, while also warning against activities he termed “Love Jihad” and “Land Jihad.”
Addressing the closing ceremony of the nine-day Ramkatha Mahotsav in Lucknow, the chief minister said society must remain united and aware of forces that seek to create divisions and weaken social harmony.
Drawing references from Hindu mythology, Yogi Adityanath said Lord Ram stood against forces that threatened centres of learning and knowledge. He noted that negative elements emerge in every era and stressed the importance of collective action to counter such challenges.
Referring to concerns over unlawful religious conversions, the chief minister said the issue had been raised in the past and described it as part of a broader attempt to influence religious demographics.
“It is part of a conspiracy to change religious demography. The Uttar Pradesh government enacted a law against unlawful religious conversion in 2020. Greater public awareness is still needed. We must remain alert,” he said.
Yogi Adityanath also raised concerns about what he termed “Land Jihad” and urged citizens to remain vigilant against activities that could affect social and national interests.
Stressing the importance of national unity, the chief minister said India could not become a refuge for those who lack commitment and loyalty towards the nation.
He further cautioned against efforts to divide society on the basis of caste, region or language, urging people to draw inspiration from the teachings of Ram Katha and work towards social cohesion.
“Some will try to divide society in the name of caste, some in the name of region and others in the name of language. We must understand the essence of Ram Katha and remain united,” he said.
The remarks come amid continuing political and social discussions surrounding religious conversion, demographic change and national unity, issues that remain at the centre of public discourse in several parts of the country.
