Mumbai’s KEM Hospital and Medical College has placed MBBS student Sejal Pawar on a 15-day forced leave after she came under fire for making objectionable remarks about cadavers during comedian Pranit More’s show.

As part of the disciplinary action, Pawar has been barred from entering the college campus and hostel and will not be allowed to participate in any academic or extracurricular activities during this period.

The move follows a preliminary inquiry which confirmed that the individual seen in the viral video making the controversial comments was indeed Pawar. College authorities described the remarks as inappropriate and unacceptable.

A five-member inquiry panel has now been constituted to conduct a detailed investigation and submit its report within seven days. The committee includes a retired professor, a senior journalist and three faculty members from the medical college.

Hospital authorities said Pawar has been sent back to her family, citing concerns over her safety amid intense public scrutiny and social media backlash. Officials also said special attention is being paid to her mental well-being.

The college has advised her to seek professional counselling, noting that the controversy may have adversely impacted her mental health.

The row erupted after a video from Pranit More’s comedy show surfaced online, allegedly showing Pawar making remarks comparing the genitalia of male cadavers used for medical education. The comments triggered widespread criticism and condemnation on social media.

The controversy also drew attention to another viral moment from the same show involving IT professional Himanshu Jangra, whose “Rs 370 biryani” remarks sparked outrage and eventually led to his dismissal from his job.

KEM Hospital said it would refrain from drawing final conclusions until the inquiry is completed and the panel submits its findings.
