Party asks Lok Sabha Speaker to recognise only Shiv Sena (UBT) in Parliament as reports suggest several MPs may shift to the Shinde camp
Shiv Sena (UBT) has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, seeking recognition as the sole authorised Shiv Sena faction in Parliament amid growing speculation over possible defections.
In a letter submitted by party MP and parliamentary leader Arvind Sawant, the party requested that no separate identity, privileges or recognition be granted to any splinter group claiming affiliation with Shiv Sena (UBT). It also urged the Speaker not to take any decision on such requests without first hearing the party’s position.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led outfit further stated that it reserves the right to invoke anti-defection provisions under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution if required.

The move comes amid reports that as many as seven MPs are in touch with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and could switch sides in the coming days. Sources said the MPs may meet Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde in Delhi before approaching the Speaker. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is also expected to attend the meeting.
Among those reportedly considering a move are Sanjay Dina Patil, Sanjay Deshmukh, Nagesh Patil Ashtikar, Omraje Nimbalkar, Bhausaheb Wakchaure and Sanjay Jadhav.
Meanwhile, reports suggest some Shiv Sena (UBT) MLAs are also in contact with the rival camp under a strategy reportedly dubbed “Operation Tiger“. In response, Uddhav Thackeray has called a meeting of all party MLAs on June 22 in Mumbai.
