Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday departed on a three-nation visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, with the tour aimed at strengthening India’s strategic partnerships, enhancing economic cooperation and deepening engagement in the Indo-Pacific region.
The multi-nation visit will focus on expanding collaboration in trade, defence, technology, critical minerals, education and people-to-people ties, while reaffirming India’s commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.
Before departing, Prime Minister Modi said the visit would provide an opportunity to further strengthen India’s relations with three key partners and advance cooperation across a wide range of sectors.
Indonesia visit
The Prime Minister’s first stop will be Indonesia, where he is expected to hold bilateral talks with the country’s leadership on enhancing cooperation in maritime security, defence, connectivity, trade and investment.
Both countries are also expected to review progress under the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and discuss regional and global developments of mutual interest.
Australia leg
In Australia, PM Modi will hold high-level meetings with Australian leaders to further deepen the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The discussions are expected to focus on defence cooperation, critical minerals, clean energy, education, technology, supply chains and strengthening economic ties. Regional security and Indo-Pacific cooperation are also likely to feature prominently during the talks.
New Zealand visit
The final leg of the tour will take the Prime Minister to New Zealand, where discussions will centre on boosting bilateral trade, investment, agriculture, education, innovation and cooperation in emerging technologies.
The visit is also expected to strengthen people-to-people ties with the Indian diaspora and explore new avenues of collaboration in the Indo-Pacific.
Focus on strategic partnerships
The three-nation tour comes at a time when India is expanding its diplomatic and strategic engagement across the Indo-Pacific amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.
Officials said the visit underscores India’s focus on building stronger partnerships with like-minded nations to promote regional stability, economic growth and resilient supply chains.
