Yadgir teachers suspended pending inquiry over participation in RSS route marches
Two government school teachers in Karnataka’s Yadgir district have been suspended pending a departmental inquiry for participating in RSS Patha Sanchalana (route marches). The Education Department said their participation prima facie violated provisions of the Karnataka Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 2021.
The suspended teachers have been identified as Gururaj Joshi, an assistant teacher at Government Girls’ High School in Hunasagi, and Anna Saheb Deshmukh, head teacher at Government Lower Primary School in Kuppi, Surpur taluk. The suspension orders were issued on August 20 by Yadgir Deputy Director of School Education Channabasappa Mudhol.
According to the proceedings, Joshi allegedly participated in an RSS route march held in Talikoti, Vijayapura district, on October 12, 2025, while Deshmukh allegedly took part in a similar event in Hunasagi on October 10, 2025. Complaints were subsequently filed seeking disciplinary action against the two teachers.
Both teachers defended their participation, saying the programmes were held on Sundays, outside working hours, and were cultural rather than political events. The Education Department rejected their explanations and ordered their suspension pending departmental inquiries.
The suspension orders cited provisions of the Karnataka Civil Services (Conduct) Rules and stated that government employees cannot be members of political parties or organisations involved in politics, associate with such organisations or participate in agitations. The orders also stressed that teachers are expected to serve as role models for society.
