The CBI has registered an FIR in connection with the death of Disha Salian, former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, officials confirmed on Monday. The FIR names Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, along with actors Dino Morea, Rhea Chakraborty and Sooraj Pancholi, though officials have clarified the FIR does not establish guilt against any of them — their alleged roles remain subject to investigation.

What Happened, And When

Salian, who had briefly worked as Rajput’s manager, died on June 8, 2020, after a fall from an apartment building in Mumbai’s Malad area. Mumbai Police initially registered the case as an Accidental Death Report and later concluded it was a suicide. Just six days after Salian’s death, Rajput was found dead at his Bandra residence, a case that triggered nationwide attention and was eventually handed to the CBI, which filed a closure report concluding Rajput died by suicide — a report still pending before the court.

Why The Case Was Reopened

The CBI’s fresh FIR follows a petition filed by Salian’s father, Satish Salian, alleging serious lapses in the original Mumbai Police investigation. Acting on that petition, the Bombay High Court on September 2 directed the CBI to take over the probe, criticising the police for treating the case as an accidental death for six years without registering an FIR. The court noted the original investigation “raises more questions than answers” and pointed to what it called glaring discrepancies in how the case was handled.

What Comes Next

The FIR formally hands the CBI statutory authority to re-examine witness statements, forensic evidence and any other material that may not have been fully explored during the original inquiry. Given the case’s long-standing public association with Rajput’s death, the reopened investigation is likely to draw significant scrutiny — though officials have stressed that names appearing in the FIR reflect the starting point of the investigation, not any finding of wrongdoing.
