CPI-M’s banking sector union, known as BEFI (Bank Employees Federation of India) had no qualms about conducting state conference on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the same time when entire banks across the country was working hard to serve the public.

Kerala has around 6000 bank branches and 12000 ATMs and its’ operations affected more than 2000 employees belonging to the CPI-M union called BEFI when they took continuous three days leave to attend their union meeting.

This BEFI meeting has really affected the working of banks in Kerala as they faced mass leave by 1000s of employees for their union meeting during the causality time.

Many ministers in Kerala, belonging to the CPI-M also attended the state conference to bless the comrades from banking sector, which provides a huge levy to the party. BEFI members have totally ignored the appeal of banking authorities to work on the sensitive days – Saturday, Sunday and Monday. As Kerala is a trade union militant area, bank managements knew well how much their writ runs in the region.

Kerala has around 6000 bank branches and 12000 ATMs and its’ operations affected more than 2000 employees belonging to the CPI-M union called BEFI when they took continuous three days leave to attend their union meeting.

BEFI leaders even came out with lame justifications on conducting the state conference. According to them, the meeting was planned well in advance and it was not possible to postpone. When the entire Nation was working on a war footing to rectify the effects of demonetization and help public hardships from public by opening banks, why are these unions take such a negative attitude? These things expose where there commitment lies; while their parent party CPI-M leadership is talking big on public hardships. In this day and age, this is a move that is going to hurt the party but their leadership is too busy giving sound bytes.
