DRI detects 72 hidden packets weighing 39.5 kg of heroin in operation
39.5 kg of heroin, worth nearly Rs.200 crore has been seized by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in a joint operation, in the international market, from Kolkata.
Director General of Police Ashish Bhatia told media persons that the ATS team had received specific information about a scrap consignment imported in February lying at the docks of the Kolkata sea port since landing, and it carries drugs. The consignment was sent by one SSK General Trading LLC of Dubai Bay.
The DGP said that based on the information, an ATS team with the DRI Jamnagar team was sent to Kolkata, where during the inspection it found some 12 gearboxes with white marks on them. When opened, 72 packs of heroin, having a net weight of 39.5 kg worth Rs.197.82 crore in the international market were found in the boxes.
The police chief said the seizure was made based on a tip by the Gujarat ATS. He said Gujarat Police has been closely working with the Coast Guard, NCB, Punjab and Delhi Police, and other agencies. Further investigation will be conducted by DRI.
