Deteriorating situations in J&K

Things in J&K are deteriorating with each passing day. On the one hand, secessionists in Kashmir have upped the ante and put forth demands ranging from restoration of statehood status to restoration of the pre-August 2019 politico-constitutional position to revocation of the central rule to talks with Pakistan to resolve what they call the “Kashmir problem”. On the other, terrorists have not only been targeting and murdering in cold-blood innocent Hindus in Kashmir but they have also started targeting and killing innocent Hindus, including children, in Jammu province and causing terror attacks at highly strategic locations, especially in and around Jammu city and the Jammu province’s Poonch-Rajouri border belt. The objective is to cause Hindu migration from the UT as they did in Kashmir in January 1990.

Problem in Kashmir

“Kashmir problem” is a misnomer. The truth is that it is a serious problem in Kashmir and the problem in Kashmir is jihad. It is patently anti-Hindu and anti-state. It is 684 years old. Its ultimate objective is to establish Nizam-e-Mustafa. They have already made Kashmir 99.99% Hindu-free. The problem started in 1339 when fanatic and canny Shah Mir and ilk usurped Kashmir’s Hindu throne through intrigue, deceit, and murder. Similarly, the cult of terrorism and orgy of death and destruction in Kashmir is not a post-Pakistan creation phenomenon or the post-1947 phenomenon. Nor is it a post-J&K-accession-to-India phenomenon. The cult of terrorism or the orgy of death and destruction or the process of conversion, murder, and expulsion of Kashmiri Hindus is 684-year-old and it continues because Kashmir still has a few hundred Hindus and Sikhs left. Likewise, the menace of secessionism in Kashmir, based on religious fanaticism, is also not 76-year-old; it is 177-year-old.

Kashmir-based Pak assets

Hardcore secessionists and fanatics, former J&K CMs Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, and others in Kashmir, including Ghulam Nabi Azad, who masquerade as “mainstream” Kashmiri leaders or whom the bulk of Indian political class, the bulk of print and electronic media and many in India and abroad, including former spies like R&AW chief A S Dulat, hail as “mainstream” Kashmiri leaders, simply blackmail, threaten, hoodwink and mislead the custodians of the Indian state when they ask the Government of India to hold dialogue with Pakistan. They only tread the path Shah Mirs charted in 1339 when they say that the “problem of Kashmir will not die unless we talk to our neighbour and find a true solution” and that “there is no way other than reconciliation in J&K to end the Kashmir problem and the starting point for it will be the restoration of whatever has been snatched from the (erstwhile) State (read Articles 35A and 370 and division of J&K into two Union Territories) and result-oriented talks with Pakistan”. Gupkar gang chairman, Farooq Abdullah, and vice-chairperson, Mehbooba Mufti, made these outrageous statements two days after (Jan 16) Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif asked PM Narendra Modi to hold “serious and sincere talks to resolve burning issues, including Kashmir,” and said that “the United Arab Emirates (UAE) leadership could play an important role in bringing India and Pakistan to the table”. And a day later (January 17), the Pakistan’s PMO office clarified that “talks with India can only take place after the country reverses its ‘illegal action of August 5, 2019’, which was aimed at illegally altering the demography of the Muslim-majority state of Indian-occupied-Kashmir”.

Pakistani agents

The point is that the Gupkaris and ilk take the Indian State for a ride; they subvert the cardinal principles of the institution of the State; they ridicule the Indian Constitution and the Indian flag on a daily basis; and they commit acts of treason and sedition in a most brazen manner when they openly interfere in our foreign policy matters, attack the symbols of the Indian State, denigrate the institution of Army, vouch for porous borders and porous Line of Control (LoC), etc, etc. and go scot-free.

It would be no exaggeration to say that these Abdullahs, the Muftis, the Azads, and others of their ilk are actually the Kashmir-based agents of Pakistan. They are the Pakistani tools of subversion; they are the Pakistani strategic assets. They are all un-Indian. They symbolize medieval barbarism. They are more dangerous than the Hurriyat gang because they have been consistently wrecking the state both from within and outside since 1947. The worst part of the whole situation has been the unflinching and unqualified support they have been getting from certain elements in New Delhi who consider India a congregation of nations, oppose a unitary form of government and like secularism, Indian-style, preach federalism as if India came into being like the erstwhile USSR came into being.

Federalism is a tool for subversion

It needs to be underlined that the idea of federalism in India was mooted by Muslims in the 1930s and was backed to the hilt by the British imperialists, who were mortally afraid of the fast-growing pressure from below in India. Let me quote what Leftist historian Sumit Sarkar wrote in this regard in his Modern India (P. 308). He wrote thus: “Some sort of promise of a change at the Centre was evidently necessary, and here the idea of federation, including princely India, came as a real godsend for the British. A federal assembly with a major section nominated by princes should prove a safe enough body, and so, as Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald declared at the end of the First Round Table Conference on 19 January 1931. ‘His Majesty’s Government will be prepared to recognize the principle of the responsibility of the Executive to the Legislature.’ The idea (of federalism) formally came from the princes, specifically from the Dewans of Hyderabad (Akbar Hydari) and Mysore (Mirza Ismail), but Hydari had been persuaded initially by the British Resident, Lt. Col. Terence H Keyes, and the suggestion was eagerly taken up by the British officials like Malcolm Hailey (administrator in British India) and British politicians like Secretary of State for India Wedgewood-Benn. Indian princes were interested in a weak centre which their entrance (in the federal assembly) would help to keep undemocratic, particularly at a time when past pressure was threatening to bring about Dominion Status, at the very least”. And what he wrote should explain the intentions of the Muslims and the Britons behind their support of federalism.

Hindu migrations from Kashmir

Between 1339 and 1819, Kashmir witnessed six Hindu migrations. During the time of the iconoclast Sultan Sikandar, all but eleven Hindu families migrated from Kashmir to save their lives, honour, dignity, culture, and religion. Such was the nature of the reign of senseless brutalities unleashed by Sikandar. It was only during the Sikh rule (1819-1846) and Jammu Dogra rule (1846-1947) that the Hindus could lead a dignified and secure life in Kashmir.

Things in Kashmir changed dramatically in October 1947, when the Congress and the British-appointed Indian PM JL Nehru transferred the state power from Jammu to fundamentally communal, essentially separatist, and rabidly anti-Hindu Sheikh Abdullah of Kashmir using surreptitious means. The result was that both the Kashmiri Hindus and the Jammu Dogras started migrating from Kashmir to escape the Islamists’ wrath. What left the Kashmiri Hindus and the Jammu Dogras with no other option but to quit Kashmir were the recruitment, promotion, and transfer policies; trade and transport policies; and agriculture and land policies. All these policies were calculated to humiliate and exclude the Kashmiri Hindus and the Jammu Dogras from all walks of life in Kashmir. The process of migration restarted in 1947 and was completed in January 1990, when all, barring a few hundred Kashmiri Hindus and the Jammu Dogras and the Punjabis, migrated from Kashmir to Jammu and other places in the country. As said earlier, the Islamists are targeting these hapless Hindus on a daily basis so that it becomes 100 percent non-Hindu.

It must remain a matter of shame that hardly anyone bemoans or condemns what the Islamists did in the past and what they continue to do in Kashmir and that “secularists” in India and outside side with the persecutors and call the persecuted fifth columnists, rightists, reactionaries, fundamentalists, backward-looking and enemies of “secularism, federalism, democracy, and diversity”.

Evil of secessionism

As said, the evil of separatism in Kashmir is 177 years old. Between 1846 and 1947, the Muslim clergy and the religio-political leadership in Kashmir as provided by Sheikh Abdullah and ilk religiously worked for the separation of Kashmir from Jammu. Their grouse was that the Dogras of Jammu purchased the “life, dignity and honour of Kashmiri Muslims from the British in 1846 by paying Rs.75 lakh”. They launched one movement after another to achieve their sinister objective and the memories of the 1946 “Quit Kashmir Movement” are too fresh to be forgotten or they still linger in our minds. The British gave full support to the Kashmiri Muslim leadership after signing the Treaty of Amritsar with Raja Gulab Singh of Jammu in March 1846 and the Congress stood solidly behind it after 1930. The Congress and Nehru hailed the anti-Dogra movement in Kashmir as a “freedom movement”.

In 1947, the Kashmiri Muslim leadership changed its goalpost. Convinced as it was that the Congress and the Congress government at the Centre and the perverted Indian Left would help it segregate not only Kashmir from India but also help it take along Jammu province and trans-Himalayan Ladakh, it started the dismember-India movement immediately after the transfer of the state power from Jammu to Srinagar and their struggle continues unabated. To be more precise, the history of Kashmiri Muslim leadership post-1947 is one of separatism, coupled with support for terrorism and subversion of government institutions. The Narendra Modi government did apply brake in August 2019 but without achieving the desired results. The reason is that the Modi government is trying to cure Kashmir’s ailment without diagnosing what ails Kashmir.

Review J&K policy

It’s hoped that PM Narendra Modi and HM Amit Shah and their trouble-shooters would sit up and review their whole J&K policy taking into consideration the developments as unfolded in Kashmir after 1339 and developments as unfolded in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh after 1947. They have to look beyond their August 2019 reform scheme. They have to separate Jammu from Kashmir. They have to Indianise the J&K administration. They have to break the unholy nexus between secessionists of all varieties, politicians of all varieties, and rouge elements in the administration. They have to convert Kashmir into Chandigarh-type UT. These are only some of the steps which the Narendra Modi government has to take if it really wishes to break the backbone of Kashmir jihad.

  1. Excellent article, incisive, the bare truth as it is ! I hope those enjoying the power entrusted to them by the Indian people, notice, and take steps.

  2. Hindus will silently surrender one state after another to jihadis in the next 50-100 years, unless we take this seriously. Should attempt to install Yogi-like people as head of each state and center.
