UP CM Yogi orders compensation to farmers after crop loss
Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath held a meeting to review the extent of damage caused by the recent unseasonal rain and hailstorm in nine districts in the state in the last 24 hours. It was observed that the hailstorm might affect not only the wheat crops but also the pulses and oilseeds.
According to meteorologists, similar weather conditions may last for the next two to three days, and necessary vigilance arrangements must be made.
Yogi Adityanath has instructed the relief commissioner to assess the damaged crops and arrange compensation for the affected farmers. He has also asked the concerned authorities to assess the crop of any farmer affected by untimely rain or hailstorm, for which the state government will procure those crops that are prone to damage under the minimum support price.
The rules will be relaxed for purchasing wheat crops that have been damaged due to the rain, said the Chief Minister. A proposal will be prepared to relax the rules as per the requirement.
In consonance with this, the UP government has directed officials to immediately deploy “Early Warning Systems” to provide effective and timely weather forecasts to farmers to help them get prepared in advance.
CM Yogi Adityanath further advised that the weather forecasts should be available for 24-48 hours in remote villages through TV, newspapers, and local administration.
The Chief Minister also instructed that if anyone dies tragically due to natural calamity or if someone is injured due to human-wildlife conflict, the victim’s family should be contacted immediately. Financial assistance should be made available to them from the Disaster Relief Fund, starting from the Relief Commissioner level.
The Chief Minister has also expressed concern about the possible shortage of straw this year due to the expected loss of wheat crops. To prevent this, the Animal Husbandry Department has been instructed to make arrangements for cattle fodder in time.
