Day after Mamata Govt banned ‘The Kerala Story’, CM Yogi declares the movie tax-free in UP

After Madhya Pradesh, now the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government declares the recently released film ‘The Kerala Story’ tax-free in the state. CM Yogi Adityanath will watch the film with his cabinet colleagues at a special screening at Lok Bhawan on May 12, the chief minister’s secretariat said.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that he, along with his cabinet colleagues and family members, will watch ‘The Kerala Story’, adding that he was not promoting the controversial movie.

His announcement came after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee advocated for a ban on the movie in the wake of protests and criticism. Banerjee decided to ban the movie, citing a “threat to law and order in the state”.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said, “Making ‘The Kerala Story’ tax-free is a very good decision. I want the people of Uttar Pradesh to watch this film and understand how our sisters have suffered. We will also go and watch the film.

‘The Kerala Story’, helmed by Sudipto Sen, portrays the story of women from the state who were converted to Islam and recruited by the terror outfit ISIS.

On Sunday, Bengaluru’s Garuda Mall organized a special screening of the contentious film which was attended by BJP national president J P Nadda.

After watching the film, Nadda said: “This movie shows a new kind of poisonous terrorism that is without weapons. No state or religion is particularly associated with this type of terrorism.”
