India on Friday successfully test-fired the short-range ballistic missile Agni-1 from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha, the Defence Ministry said.

The launch was carried out under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command and successfully validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile system, the ministry added.

“The test was carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command,” the Defence Ministry said in a statement.

Agni-1 is part of India’s Agni series of nuclear-capable ballistic missiles developed for strategic deterrence. The missile has a strike range of around 700 kilometres and is designed for quick deployment and high operational flexibility.

The successful test comes as India continues to strengthen its strategic and defence capabilities through regular validation exercises of its missile systems.

The Agni missile family currently includes Agni-1, Agni-2, Agni-3 and Agni-4, with strike ranges varying between 700 kilometres and 3,500 kilometres. These missile systems have already been inducted into the armed forces.

The test from Odisha’s Chandipur facility is part of India’s routine operational readiness and strategic deterrence programme aimed at ensuring the reliability and effectiveness of its missile arsenal.
