
Bangalore International Airport Ltd ex-chief operating officer Jayaraj Shanmugam joins Air India
On Monday, Tata-owned Air India announced the appointment of Jayaraj Shanmugam as head of global airport operations.
Shanmugam joins Air India from Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), where he served as the Chief Operating Officer. He will assume his role on April 15 and will report to Chief Operations Officer, Captain Klaus Goersch.
The appointment of Jayaraj Shanmugam marks a significant milestone in Air India’s Vihaan.AI transformation journey. With his leadership, the airline aims to elevate its airport operations to new heights and achieve numerous milestones along the path to excellence.
Shanmugam had a career spanning over 25 years in the airline, airport, and telecom industries, with stints at Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Jet Airways.
During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in operationalizing the new Terminal 2, showcasing his adeptness in airport management and operations, the Tata Group-owned airline said in a statement.
Air India is navigating through a five-year transformation journey under the banner of Vihaan.
The first phase of this transformation, known as the “taxi phase,” has recently been completed, focusing primarily on rectifying fundamental aspects of the airline’s operations.
Announcing Shanmugam’s appointment, Goersch said, “Jayaraj has distinctive expertise in driving excellence in customer experience and airport operations, redesigning and improving services.
“We look forward to significantly enhancing our airport operations with his leadership and achieving many milestones in our Vihaan.AI transformation journey.”
