Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi offers prayers at Jagannath Mandir
All the four gates of Puri’s Jagannath Mandir are now open for the devotees. The state’s BJP government also established a corpus fund for the immediate needs of the ancient Mandir.
Chief minister Mohan Charan Manjhi, along with his ministers, Puri MP Sambit Patra, Balasore MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi, and other leaders arrived at the mandir and attended the famous Mangal Aarati.
The BJP government in Odisha had made a poll promise to throw open all four entrance gates of Puri’s Jagannath Mandir for devotees.
A day after Odisha’s new Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi took over the office, he chaired its first Cabinet meeting and approved a proposal to re-open all four gates of Shree Jagannath Mandir on early Thursday morning.
Talking to media persons, CM Majhi said that there was strong resentment among the devotees over the issue.
“The cabinet in its first decision on Wednesday decided to reopen the temple gates after the ‘Mangal Aarti‘ rituals on Thursday morning. Due to the blessings of Lord Jagannath, this was fulfilled today,” said CM Majhi.
He also assured that the government will take all the steps to address other issues related to the management of the 12th-century Mandir.
Since COVID, devotees have been allowed to enter the Mandir only through the main gate (Lion Gate). The devotees as well as sevayats had placed the demand before the previous Biju Janata Dal government several times in the past to reopen the entrance gates but to no avail.
