Tehran says any airspace violation will be treated as war

Iran on Friday warned the United States of an “all-out war” after President Donald Trump claimed that a massive American naval force, including an aircraft carrier strike group, was moving towards Tehran, sharply escalating tensions between the two countries.

The warning came amid growing uncertainty over whether Washington is preparing for military action, following Trump’s remarks about an American “armada” heading towards Iran.

Reacting to the US military buildup, a senior Iranian official said any violation of Iran’s airspace or sovereignty would be treated as a declaration of full-scale war.

“This time we will treat any attack — limited, unlimited, surgical, kinetic, whatever they call it — as an all-out war against us, and we will respond in the hardest way possible,” the official was quoted as saying by Reuters.

The official added that while Tehran hopes the US deployment is not intended for direct confrontation, Iran’s armed forces are on the highest level of alert and prepared for the worst-case scenario.

“That is why everything is on high alert in Iran,” the official said, warning that any breach of Iranian territorial integrity would invite an immediate response.

On Thursday, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that the US was moving a significant naval force towards Iran as a precautionary measure.

“We’re watching Iran… we have a lot of ships going that direction just in case… we have a big flotilla going in that direction… we have a big force going towards Iran… I’d rather not see anything happening… we have an armada, a massive fleet heading in that direction,” Trump said.

The escalation comes amid ongoing anti-government protests in Iran. According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), at least 5,137 protesters have been killed since demonstrations began on December 28. More than 7,400 people have reportedly suffered serious injuries, while over 27,000 protesters have been arrested.

HRANA added that nearly 12,904 additional cases of deaths are currently under review, with some unconfirmed estimates placing the death toll above 20,000 as protests entered their 28th day.
