
Centre to deploy teams in 10 states seeing Omicron cases surge
On the sidelines of rising Omicron cases in India, the Centre has decided to deploy multi-disciplinary Central teams to 10 identified States.
The 10 states that have been identified by the Centre either have a slow vaccination pace or some of which are reporting an increasing number of Omicron variant and COVID-19 cases.
The Centre will deploy the multi-disciplinary teams in Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Mizoram, Karnataka, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Punjab.
The Centre has already provided more than 148.37 crores (1,48,37,98,635) vaccine doses to States/ UTs so far through Govt. of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category.
The Health Ministry informed that India has reported 7,189 fresh Covid cases and 387 deaths today. The active cases stand at 77,516. Omicron variant cases saw a surge of 122 in 24 hours, the highest so far, pushing India’s tally to 415.
Maharashtra accounts for the highest number of Omicron cases in the country, followed by Delhi, Gujarat, Telangana, so far. States like Haryana, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh have reported 4 cases each; Jammu and Kashmir and West Bengal 3 each, Uttar Pradesh 2, and Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Ladakh 1 each.
