Drugs worth Rs.500 crores seized by Assam Rifles Seizes Drugs in Moreh town of Manipur

In a major success to the Assam Rifles Seizes Drugs in Manipur, drugs worth over Rs.500 crores have been seized from a house. As per reports, a major haul of drugs, including 54 kgs of brown sugar and 154 kgs of Ice Meth were seized from a house in the Moreh town of Manipur.

The house is owned by a woman who is married to a Chinese national, as per the report. The accused woman is presently suspected to be in Mandalay in Myanmar.

Narco-terrorism is a major source of finance for the terrorist groups based in Myanmar. It has linkages with the other players in the ‘Golden Triangle‘.

Vikramjit Singh, District Superintendent of Police, Tengnoupal, said that the Assam Rifles and the police in a joint operation seized heroin powder weighing 54.141 kg and methamphetamine tablets weighing 154.314 kg from a house at Sunrise Ground in Moreh town late on Monday evening.

He said, “The cost of the seized heroin powder is expected to be around Rs.108 crore and that of the methamphetamine (Crystal Meth) tablets around Rs.400 crore in the international market.”

The district police chief said that the Assam Rifles and the police arrested Monkhai, 19, a resident of Khampat in neighboring Myanmar, on Monday afternoon. His arrest led to the biggest ever seizure of drugs smuggled from across the border and stored in a house.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh tweeted lauding the security forces for the record drugs seizure. He tweeted, “Marvelous achievement by Tengnoupal Police and 43 Assam Rifles in seizing illegal narcotics substances worth Rs.500 crore from a warehouse in Moreh.

On receiving reliable input, the combined team had arrested one Myanmar national with 220 soap cases of suspected heroin. Upon his revelation, a warehouse was raided and 3,716 soap cases containing suspected heroin and 152 packets of suspected Crystal Meth (methamphetamine) were seized. This is one of the biggest seizures under the ‘War on Drugs’ initiative of the state government.”

Earlier, in November, the Assam Rifles prevented cross-border trafficking of brown sugar worth Rs.1.20 crores in Manipur’s Tengnoupal area. Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles had foiled narcotics trafficking.

Also, in April, Manipur police caught a narcotics trader in possession of 84.45 kg of opium worth more than Rs.4 crore on the international market. A team of Imphal West district police commandos made the arrest in the Shantipur region of Imphal West district.

On Thursday, the Delhi Police Special Cell in Churachandpur district successfully nabbed Mohammed Kashim Ali, a suspended Manipur Police constable accused of being the kingpin of an interstate narcotics gang. Ali is accused of selling high-grade heroin worth crores of rupees on the black market.
