Rs 100 Crore Hawala Trail Exposed in Amit Shah’s Operation Trident Strike
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced a major strike against an international drug syndicate operating in India’s Northeast. The action, code-named Operation Trident, saw central agencies raid 38 locations across Assam, Mizoram and Manipur at the same time on October 23.
Shah shared the details in a post on X on Sunday. According to him, the raids led to 18 arrests and exposed hawala transactions worth Rs 100 crore. Officials also froze 1,424 bank accounts and attached properties valued at Rs 17.82 crore.
Investigators seized 500 detonators and Rs 12 lakh in cash during the searches.
Shah said the network moved narcotics across the borders of India, Myanmar and Bangladesh along a route he called the “Death Triangle Corridor.”
Calling the operation proof of the government’s resolve against drug trafficking, Shah repeated the goal of wiping out every drug network in the country by December 31, 2029. He said the Centre would keep up the pressure until such cartels are dismantled.
