City of Shri Ram shines bright with over 26 lakh diyas as devotees celebrate faith and heritage ahead of Diwali
Ayodhya’s Deepotsav celebrations illuminated the holy city and the record books this year, with the festival setting two new Guinness World Records — marking another historic moment of devotion and cultural pride ahead of Diwali.
The city witnessed an awe-inspiring spectacle as 26,17,215 earthen lamps (diyas) lit up the ghats of the River Saryu, creating the world’s largest display of oil lamps. In another record, 1,121 devotees performed diya rotation simultaneously, earning Ayodhya its second Guinness certificate of the evening.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who attended the grand event, received the official Guinness World Records certificates and congratulated the people of the state for their participation.
“Through this program of Deepotsav, we have tried to create an identity for Uttar Pradesh,” the Chief Minister said. “To ensure that the identity and faith of the people are preserved, the government has made continuous efforts since the formation of the double-engine government.”
He also extended his festive greetings, saying, “I extend my wishes to the people of the state on Deepotsav 2025.”
A spectacle of lights, faith, and devotion
The celebrations featured a grand drone show, laser and light displays, and a traditional Ram Leela performance at Ram Ki Paidi on the banks of the Saryu. As chants of “Ram Siya Ram” filled the air, the shimmering glow of millions of diyas transformed Ayodhya into a sea of light, symbolizing victory, devotion, and harmony.
In his address to devotees, CM Yogi praised the artisans behind the celebrations. “More than 26,71,000 lamps have been lit in Ayodhya Dham. These lamps are the result of the hard work of people belonging to the Prajapati and Kumhar communities,” he said, noting that the festival not only celebrates faith but also supports local livelihoods.
He also took a swipe at previous governments, claiming they neglected cultural festivals like Deepotsav while spending state funds on events such as the Saifai Mahotsav.
Ayodhya’s legacy shines brighter
This year’s Deepotsav marks another milestone in Ayodhya’s ongoing transformation into a global spiritual and cultural destination. The event drew thousands of visitors from across India and abroad, as the ancient city — believed to be the birthplace of Shri Ram — continued its tradition of merging devotion with grandeur.
With two new world records and millions of glowing diyas lighting the night sky, Ayodhya’s Deepotsav 2025 once again affirmed its place as one of India’s most spectacular celebrations of faith and heritage.
