24-year-old sailor from Agra arrested by UP ATS
The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a 24-year-old sailor of the Indian Navy on charges of allegedly spying for Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and sharing sensitive information related to naval assets.
The accused has been identified as Adarsh Kumar, also known as Lucky, a resident of Agra in Uttar Pradesh.
According to officials, the arrest was made on March 10 after intelligence inputs indicated that the suspect had allegedly established contact with a Pakistan-based ISI handler and was involved in espionage activities targeting India.
Suspect was under surveillance
Officials said the ATS launched a detailed investigation after receiving information that the suspect had been communicating with the ISI and passing sensitive information.
“The UP ATS received information suggesting that the suspect had been communicating with the ISI and sharing sensitive details. Based on this input, the agency placed him under electronic and physical surveillance,” a senior official said.
During the investigation, the suspect was identified as the son of Balveer Singh from Chitapur village under Kagarol police station in Agra district.
Authorities said Kumar was serving as a Lance Naik in the Navy and was posted at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi.
Allegedly shared information on naval assets
According to investigators, Kumar had come in contact with a Pakistan-based ISI agent and remained in communication with the handler over a period of time.
Officials claim that he transferred money from his bank account to the handler and shared photographs and details related to strategically important naval warships.
Security agencies believe the information shared could have serious national security implications, as it allegedly included images and details of sensitive naval assets.
Investigation underway
After verifying evidence gathered during the probe, the ATS arrested the accused on charges related to espionage and anti-national activities.
Following the arrest, Kumar was produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Investigators are now examining communication records, financial transactions and digital devices recovered from the accused to determine the extent of the information shared and whether others may be involved in the espionage network.
