
Controversy erupts as Bank of India staff union in Kerala plans to honour Pervez Musharraf at state conference
In a shocking incident, the Public Sector Bank – Bank of India’s – staff union in Kerala decided to pay tribute to former Pakistan late President Pervez Musharraf on July 27. The function of the Union [Bank of India Staff Union (Kerala)], part of AIBEA (All India Bank Employees Association) is associated with the Communist Party of India (CPI) came a day after the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Divas.
Bank of India Staff Union, which is a communist offshoot of the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), was scheduled to felicitate Musharaf at its State Conference on Saturday. However, the decision was reverted at the last moment following outrage and protests. The 23rd State Conference of the Bank of India Staff Union (Kerala) is being held at Alappuzha on 27th July. Congress MP K C Venugopal inaugurated the conference.
As part of the program, several dignitaries including dead persons were to be felicitated. The organization released the names of the persons who were being honoured at the event, which included actors, singers, dancers, sportspersons, activists, and others. However, the one name that has shocked everyone is Pervez Musharraf Former President of Pakistan. However, after the incident invited huge criticism, the name of Parvez Musharraf was removed from the list. But it is still a mystery, why Bank of India’s Staff Union decided to include Parvez Musharaff’s name in the paying of tribute list. After the matter came to light, BJP workers protested at the venue of the Bank of India Staff Union (Kerala) conference hall in Alappuzha.
