Swati Maliwal assault case: Delhi Police arrests Bibhav Kumar from CM’s residence
Delhi Police on Saturday arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal‘s Private Secretary Bibhav Kumar in connection with the alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal. Bibhav Kumar was picked up from the chief minister’s residence by a Delhi Police team around noon and taken to the police station for interrogation. On Friday evening, Bibhav also filed a complaint to Delhi Police against Swati Maliwal, accusing her of creating a tussle at the Chief Minister’s home, abusing him, and hitting staff.
On Friday morning Aam Aadmi Party released a second video showing security personnel taking Swati Maliwal out of the Chief Minister’s home and said that the video showed that Swati was normal in walking and her claims on beaten brutally were totally wrong. The AAP also accused her of doing drama by walking slowly during hospital visits and court visits.
It seems that the AAP is facing a change of versions and is now claiming that Swati Maliwal is a BJP agent who is fixing Kejriwal in fake cases. On Tuesday, – May 14 – a day after Swati Maliwal was accused of assault at the Chief Minister’s home by Bibhav, AAP leader Sanjay Singh ratified Swati’s claims. He in a press conference said that Kejriwal has taken cognizance of the assault and will take action.
But the situation changed when Swati Maliwal filed a written complaint and went for a medical test and deposition in court claiming the brutal attack on her. On Friday, AAP Minister Aatishi Marlena accused Swati Maliwal as a BJP agent and engaged in a conspiracy to fix Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a fake case.
According to AAP leaders, Swati was out of the good books of the party due to her silence and non-protest on the arrest of Kejriwal. They say as she was facing cases for illegal recruitment during her tenure as Chairperson of the Delhi Women’s Commission, she had surrendered and cut a deal with the BJP government to save herself. She was blocked from meeting Kejriwal and she created drama at the Chief Minister’s residence and created a fake attack case, say AAP leaders.
Will AAP take disciplinary action against Swati Maliwal? The problem with AAP is – that she is currently a Rajya Sabha MP and if the party takes action, she can continue with her Parliament Membership. The party can only take action against her if she changes the party, leading to a violation of anti-defection law and cancellation of MPship.
