
Mohan Charan Majhi to be BJP’s first CM in Odisha; K V Singh Deo, Pravati Parida made DY CMs
Mohan Charan Majhi will be the first BJP Chief Minister of Odisha after the saffron party defeated Biju Janata Dal (BJD) chief Naveen Patnaik following the end of his 24-year-old tenure.
Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida will be the next Odisha’s Deputy Chief Ministers.
The names were selected at the BJP legislature party meeting, which was attended by Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Bhupender Yadav as observers.
Mohan Charan Majhi won the Keonjhar seat with a margin of around 87,815 votes. He defeated BJD’s Mina Majhi from the constituency. Pravati Parida won the Nimapara Assembly constituency in Odisha by defeating BJD’s Dillip Kumar Nayak with a margin of 4,588 votes.
Mohan Majhi, a prominent member of the tribal community, was first elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from the Keonjhar constituency in 2000. represented the Keonjhar Assembly constituency twice in 2000 and 2004 before winning it again in the 2019 Odisha Assembly polls. In the 2000 Odisha Assembly Elections, Mohan Charan Majhi defeated Congress candidate Jagadish Naik by 22,163 votes in Keonjhar. In the 2004 Odisha Assembly Elections, Mohan Charan Majhi defeated Congress candidate Madhab Sardar by 11,002 votes in Keonjhar.
The swearing-in ceremony has been scheduled for June 12. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the oath-taking ceremony at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar.
