Iran says has recovered the body of Abbas Nilforoushan alongside Nasrallah
Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has announced the recovery of the body of senior commander Abbas Nilforoushan, who was reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon last month. In a statement released on its official news outlet, Sepah News, the IRGC confirmed that Nilforoushan’s body was located following extensive search efforts.
The IRGC expressed condolences over the “martyrdom of the glorious general,” stating that his body will be returned to Iran for funeral and burial ceremonies, with specific dates to be announced later.
Nilforoushan was killed on September 27 during a meeting with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah when Israel conducted a large-scale targeted strike on Hezbollah’s headquarters in Dahieh, a southern suburb of Beirut. Reports indicate that Nasrallah and several senior Hezbollah leaders were also killed in the attack.
In response to the airstrike, on October 1, the IRGC launched approximately 180 missiles at strategic locations in Israel, framing the action as retaliation for the assassinations of Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh, Nasrallah, and Nilforoushan, as well as for what it described as increased “malicious acts” supported by the US against Lebanon and Palestinian territories.
