RG Kar case: CBI discovers major flaws in the investigation
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered significant deficiencies in the inquest report related to the RG Kar rape-murder case, according to sources on Friday.
The initial concern arose from the magistrate’s report, which indicated that the judicial magistrate was granted only 20 minutes to examine the victim’s body. This unusually brief period is alarming given the severity of the situation, raising questions about the thoroughness of the investigation.
An inquest report serves as a legal document that outlines the findings of a police officer or magistrate during an inquiry into a sudden or unexplained death. Its purpose is to determine the cause of death and assess whether it is unnatural or suspicious.
Investigators noted that the rushed examination mirrored the swift completion of the autopsy, which took a mere 70 minutes. This haste has led officials to suspect that the investigation was not conducted with the due diligence it warranted.
Further scrutiny revealed a lack of detailed descriptions of the victim’s wounds in the inquest report. Sources indicated that the report also failed to provide comprehensive accounts of various exhibits found near the victim’s body during the examination.
Additionally, major contradictions have been identified between the post-mortem report and the seizure list compiled by local police, who initially handled the investigation prior to the CBI’s involvement following a Supreme Court order. Notably, discrepancies have emerged concerning the victim’s clothing.
The victim, a female doctor, was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. To date, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
The CBI continues its investigation, emphasizing the need for a meticulous review of the findings to ensure justice is served in this tragic case.
