CBI is responsible for delaying cases against Chidambaram and Karti. Time for PM to act

Repeated delay in acting against Chidambaram and his son is beginning to wear thin on Modi's credibility

Chidambaram and Chidambaram - Acquire and Assimilate

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has miserably failed in handling the corruption cases related to former Finance Minister P Chidambaram(PC) and his son Karti Chidambaram (KC). CBI officers who handled the INX Media bribe case and Aircel Maxis scam case should have arrested Karti for evading their summons a long time ago. Did the CBI officers get a message from their political bosses to go slow on these cases involving Chidambaram, or is there a “loyalty” effect in place for their ex-boss Chidambaram? Whatever it might be, it is time for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to pull up the errant officers in CBI because the buck stops with him.

It is obvious that friends of Chidambaram in Modi’s Government are asking the CBI to go slow. Otherwise, we know how CBI will act and the trial on these cases would have started by now. These are your friends too, Mr. Modi. With friends like these, you don’t need enemies.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax’s Chennai unit had already conducted raids in December 2015 and January 2016 and exposed Karti and Chidambaram family members’ assets in 14 countries and 21 undeclared foreign bank accounts. When it was reported in the media in February 2016, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley claimed in Parliament that action will be taken soon. People are not fools to believe Arun Jaitley’s assurances on taking actions against his close friend Chidambaram. But still many believe in Narendra Modi and it is time for him to repose people’s faith.

PGurus have produced all documents exposed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in mid-2017 detailing the illegal assets and bank accounts of Chidambaram family in a detailed article titled  Chidambara Rahasya. On Swamy’s complaint, the Prime Minister had soon ordered CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes) under Finance Ministry to register cases under new Black Money Law and Benami Law. All these findings are unearthed by Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax’s Chennai Unit by raiding Karti’s companies and seizing the data from his computers. But senior officers of CBDT in Delhi are busy aging the case by sending letters to these 14 countries to provide an escape route to their former boss Chidambaram. What pointless rubbish! Throw the rascal in jail and extract the names of the co-conspirators and put them in jail too. The long-suffering taxpayers have had enough.

These departments like CBDT under Revenue Department were mute spectators when Karti was arguing for his London visit in connection with the FIR and subsequent Look Out Notice issued in connection with the INX media bribe case. In an inexplicable move, the CBI never told the Supreme Court that Karti is not adhering to their two summons notices in the Aircel-Maxis scam. If it was any other person, he/ she would be simply arrested when he/ she shows up for interrogation. In the case of  INX Media, Karti was forced by the Supreme Court to appear before CBI which questioned him twice and are now hibernating for the past two months.

The ED has found that Karti got Rs.5 crores bribe for giving illegal FIPB clearance to INX media by PC as the Finance Minister. In Aircel-Maxis, Karti and his firms were caught for accepting around Rs.2 crores as bribe. Violations committed by Chidambaram in Aircel-Maxis are explained in detail by the CBI already. For the past three years CBI is telling Supreme Court that they will act soon and then they promptly go back to sleep. It is obvious that friends of Chidambaram in Modi’s Government are asking the CBI to go slow. Otherwise, we know how CBI will act and the trial on these cases would have started by now. These are your friends too, Mr. Modi. With friends like these, you don’t need enemies.

The Income Tax Department, which too has arresting powers, is also keeping quiet in the proceedings of new Black Money and new Benami Act. Without arresting Karti, the CBI has provided him a window to argue for going abroad. How can the court prevent a person from going abroad if no action is taken by agencies for months? It is time for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take stock of this situation and pull up the pliant officers in CBI and CBDT.

Mr. Modi, the common man is starting to doubt your intentions when you keep claiming in election rallies that you are going after the corrupt. Here are two airtight cases with clinching evidence to place the corrupt in jail, but somehow something happens and the whole effort stalls.

  1. If it. is believed by the CBI and Dr. Swamy that the father-and-son are guilty and that the finance ministry led by Arun Jaitley are the villains of the piece, why don’t PGurus.com and Mr. Sree Iyer file a PIL against all these villains for denying justice to the people of India by letting them go Scot free? Incidentally, why is the Nation Herald case of Dr Swamy taking such a long time? Are Jaitley and his officials guilty there too? Meanwhile, PGurus.com team should interview Mr. Jaitley on this Chidambarams’ issue on a video.

  2. Besides PC and KC,what is happening to corrupt Pronnoy of NDTV? Not asingle man is prosecuted during Modis three year rule, with the result we have started loosing our trust in his assjrances regarding corrupt people.

  3. The CBI as the law enforcement agency should have insisted on the unfettered power that similar agencies ( FBI, Scotland Yard) are granted by their respective democracies. The very cornerstone of democracy, the separation of powers allow each arm of democracy act independent of the other.By allowing one to influence the other, we as a nation, open this country to nepotism, mismanagement, corruption. Most of all the poor and the powerless are left to wonder what is going on. Are we living in a democracy?

  4. Good work by Dr. Subramaniam Swamy, & PGurus team led by Shree Iyer in exposing the corrupt deeds by the family of the former Finance & Home Minister. They have not only looted the country but have done a great damage to India through their deeds of acts & omissions. They should be caught and sent to worst prison in India for the rest of their lives! The silence by the P.M is deafening, does he have an axe to grind!

  5. Aptly said : “People are not fools to believe Arun Jaitley’s assurances on taking actions against his close friend Chidambaram. But still many believe in Narendra Modi and it is time for him to repose people’s faith.”
It is for PM Narendra Modi to act. He can’t shy from taking actions
