CRPF’s CoBRA commandos used in anti-Naxal ops deployed in Kashmir

The Centre has decided to induct elite CoBRA commandos of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), a unit that specializes in jungle warfare, to further strengthen the anti-terrorist security grid in Jammu and Kashmir.

The CoBRA units, previously deployed in the Naxal hit area of Bihar and a few other pockets were withdrawn following significant improvement in the security situation for an advanced training course in the Kashmir valley.

According to official sources, the training program of these CoBRA commandos has been completed recently and now they have been inducted in the multi-tier security grid across the Kashmir valley. These units arrived in Kashmir in the month of April 2023 and since then they have been receiving training under the supervision of experts.

These CoBRA commandos were imparted training to deal with terrorists in Urban and Rural areas.

So far these CoBRA commandos tackled the challenges in the naxal hit areas. The training module was designed to introduce them to challenges they might face during their deployment with various units of CRPF, part of the security grid.

Some of these commandos would be permanently stationed with Quick-reaction teams of the CRPF and other vulnerable pockets to deal with the terrorist threat.

CRPF jawans and members of the Special Operations Group of J&K police remain deployed on ground zero during anti-terrorist operations. The Army para unit rushes its commandos wherever required during anti-terrorist operations.

Official sources said, their experience of jungle warfare training would come in handy as terrorists operating in the Kashmir valley have been engaging the security forces inside thickly forested areas of North and South Kashmir.
