Congress strategy in turmoil ahead of key state polls, Gandhi family at the centre
A move is underway among the senior leaders of the Indian National Congress to liberate the party from the shackles of the Gandhi-Nehru clan and weed out incapable leaders. A cartel of self-styled leaders has hijacked the Congress and is using the institution to suit their personal and vested interests.
The Congress High Command (read 10 Janpath) is upset over the exit polls on the Bihar election aired by various TV channels on Tuesday evening. The signora of the clan called for a meeting on Wednesday, which was attended by son Rahul Gandhi, daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, son-in-law Robert Vadra, and family retainers.
Since the Vote Chori campaign led by Rahul Gandhi across Bihar went haywire, it has been decided to go all out to sabotage the people’s mandate at any cost and seize power in the state. “The Bihar election is important for us because it has to be seen as a precursor to the Legislative Assembly elections to be held in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Bengal, and Puthussery early next year,” said a Congress leader privy to the discussions that took place on Wednesday.
The Muslim League leadership in Kerala has told the Gandhi clan that in the eventuality of the Congress-led United Democratic Front failing to win a majority in the election to the Assembly, the former would be forced to make a rethinking on its continuation in the Front. The League has been out of power in Kerala since 2016 and is finding it difficult to manage the party with limited resources.
Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are the only states that finance the Muslim League activities in Kerala, and the party is operating on a shoestring budget. If the League wins at least 20 seats in the Assembly election, it is almost certain that the party may switch sides and join the CPI(M) bandwagon. The Muslim League also envisages a scenario in which the Congress tally is limited to 40 seats so that the former can claim its pound of the chief minister’s gaddi.
Now that the plan of the Congress to stage violent protest rallies across the country post-Bihar elections has been leaked out, the Grand Old Party is getting ready to subvert the winter session of Parliament that gets going on 1st December 2025. The idea is to get maximum publicity to the party’s allegation that there is total anarchy and breakdown in the Constitutional bodies in the country. The news-starved TV channels hope to get a “big catch” through this campaign.
The agitation against the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls has lost its sting as more and more people have understood the folly behind the demand to put an end to the revision process.
It is a do-or-die situation for the Gandhi clan as the mother-son duo is enmeshed in many criminal cases, ranging from financial embezzlement (the National Herald case is just one example) to PMLA. If the NDA wins Bihar comfortably, and the Congress fails to make any impact in the elections to be held early next year to the Legislative Assemblies of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Pudussery, and Bengal, the possibilities of second-rung leaders questioning the role played by the Gandhis in the party will become stronger in the coming months.
The only option available for the Gandhi clan is to draft Raihan Vadra, son of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, to reinvigorate the GOP. Rahul Gandhi has been proven beyond doubt to be incapable of leading the party to victory, and having failed three times, it is time for him to make way for the next generation of Gandhis. Raihan has crossed the age of 25 and is eligible to contest the election and lead the country. Senior Congress leaders who have been suppressing their laughter during speeches delivered by Rahul Gandhi have started telling that the son of Rajeev Gandhi should pursue some other profession like writing books or launching a management consultancy service.
